You know when you finish one project and it creates five more? Welcome to the last year of our life.
First, we moved our main living space downstairs, and suddenly the furniture that fit the space before felt off.
Cue five more projects — sanding and painting and scrubbing and everything else that goes along with salvaging some good-looking furniture we can actually afford (lots more on that later… I have at least one piece that’s almost ready to share).
The move also left an empty room that I’m hoping will someday become an office.
… but that means more painting, more diy… more time. And our first go-round with color on the office walls, as great as it looks, is currently a little too dark for all of the shooting we do in the room.
Cue five more.


Meanwhile, and because we can’t just stick to one thing (that would be way too easy), we’ve also been sprucing up our bedroom and master bath… touching up the walls, hanging a few new pieces… basically just making everything look a little bit better next to this guy that we added over the summer.
I’ve been saying this for months I know, but soon I tell you… soon I’ll be able to share.
You can see some bits and pieces here that are finally starting to come together… kilim pillows, the deer skull that I’ve lovingly nicknamed Fred (of the “Drop Dead” variety — which was natural, I assume, since he was found in the woods… you probably didn’t want to know), and a scruffy little dog on an unmade bed… unmade because we spent the whole weekend (the whole weekend where I should have been working on any number of other things on a very long list…) on our latest project — painting the living room.
The living room — that new place where we hang out (instead of upstairs in a guest room designated for our one tv — don’t ask me why) whose dusty peach and yellow walls suddenly look like crazy sherbet with the furniture we’ve moved in.

And that’s great. We were excited to paint, and we assumed it would be easy (clearly our first mistake). It wasn’t all that complex of a room. Quick work.
We decided to go with white. Something clean to make our green couch look a little less crazy than it did on that yellow wall.
But there’s something they don’t tell you about white. White is the King of Finicky Colors. Yellow undertones, blue undertones, purple and pink… how it reflects the light and how it matches up with any other whites in the room.
Thanks to some seriously great recommendations from this lovely lady’s go-to paint colors series on SMP, I’m in love with the white that we chose — it’s soft without any ugly undertones and it really looks beautiful… more beautiful than I even expected.
But it doesn’t match the trim. Or the doors.

So, just so you know… Lennon’s planning to stay right here on the bed with his scruffy, unkempt hair until his humans can pull it together enough to clean him — and their house — up… and it might take some time. At this point, I fully expect to be “five more” project-ing this for the rest of my life.
